Mental Fitness Coaching in Orcutt and Santa Maria

| Kim Kuljian | News

I'm excited to share that mental fitness has come to Orcutt and Santa Maria!  But what is it?

According to Shirzad Chamine in his book, Positive Intelligence, mental fitness is "your capacity to respond to life's challenges with a positive rather than negative mindset."  When we have mental fitness, the impact is:
  • Peak performance
  • Peace of mind / wellness
  • Healthy relationships
Who wouldn't want more of this?

How can mental fitness coaching help me?

When Orcutt and Santa Maria clients come to me describing feeling stuck, hopeless, or burned out, or say they battle depression and anxiety, we immediately begin mental fitness coaching!

We all have thinking patterns driven by our survival brain.  The survival brain consists of our brainstem, limbic system, and parts of our left brain.  It's primary purpose is to keep us safe.  The fear-based survival brain motivates us through negative emotions such as fear, stress, anger, guilt, shame, and insecurity.

We also have the middle prefrontal cortex and parts of our right brain where our non-analytical brain functions live.  This part of our brain motivates us through positive emotions such as:
  • Empathy
  • Curiosity
  • Creativity
  • Passion
  • Purpose
Poor mental fitness is when our established mental habits rely too much on our survival brain instead of our "right" brain, or as Shirzad Chamine calls it, our Sage brain.  We get mired down with negative, fearful, judgmental, and critical thoughts and feelings.  People may feel like victims, trapped and powerless.

How do we increase mental fitness?

This is where a mental fitness program and coaching comes together.

Once a client is aware they have these negative thinking patterns and would like to change them, they are only 20% into making the change.  It takes education and practicing new skills a little at a time to reach the desired outcome.  I can help with that as their coach!

By coupling a mental fitness program with daily exercises and coaching sessions, the client receives deeper learning and insights, but then also has the additional support to grow their mental fitness stronger.  They can take actions they couldn't take previously.

It's an incredible process supporting clients while they become aware of the negative chatter previously running unnoticed and unchecked inside their minds.  Things like:
  • Loser!
  • What an idiot.
  • You better not!  It's too scary.
  • It'll go away if I ignore it.
  • If you aren't going to do it right, don't do it at all!!
  • If I want it done right, I have to do it myself.
I use Shirzad Chamine's Positive Intelligence Quotient (PQ) program with clients.  He calls these negative voices "Saboteurs".  Together we teach clients how to get their hand off the hot stove as soon as they notice them.

We practice, practice, practice together and the client replaces negative thought patterns with ones proven to generate positive emotions!

What do Orcutt and Santa Maria clients say about mental fitness coaching?

One of my clients reported she is "feeling joy for the first time in years".  Another says she no longer has to work through "layers of depression before she can start her day".  Across the board my clients are saying this program is life-changing!

If you want mental fitness coaching for yourself or a loved one, I hope you'll give me a call!
